How to Copy Designer Style Without Wearing Knockoffs
Written by Salma Falah
I have always loved designer clothing. Models like Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Kaia Gerber are constantly posting their outfits on Instagram, putting their vast collection of designer clothing on display. Scrolling through my Instagram feed, I am always green with envy. However, I have never been able to get myself to buy a knockoff. I do not know why; it feels deceptive to me. If people ask if it is real, do I admit it’s fake? My desire to wear designer and my inability to wear knockoff have always been a struggle.
I have learned that there are tons of ways to emulate my favorite celebrities without wearing knockoffs. One word: Zara. Zara is constantly being inspired by designer brands, but not so much that their clothes become knockoffs. For example, I have always loved the Stuart Weitzman over the knee black boots. They bring together any outfit, and they are an item that never really goes out of style. However, the Stuart Weitzman’s Modley boot, a knee high black leather boot, is $675. Fear not, Zara also sells an over the knee black boots for $79. Browsing Zara’s shoe collection, I can see that they really take inspiration from designer brands. These boots are not the only example; Zara has an amazing shoe collection.
Moreover, blazers are so in this season, especially plaid blazers. Blake Lively, for example, epically wore an all plaid Ralph Lauren outfit while promoting a movie. If you ever want to channel Blake, believe it or not, you can. Zara has so many cool and trendy blazers that are all under $150. I would also recommend ASOS, Topshop, H&M, and Forever 21. They also sell great clothing for less!

Another great method to wear designer clothing without buying knockoffs, is a new app called ScreenShop. Kim Kardashian and many other bloggers have partnered up with them to introduce it to their viewers. Basically, you can take a screenshot of an outfit that a celebrity or blogger is wearing and the app can generate similar versions of their outfit for less. Using this app, you can actually channel your favorite celebrities. It is really easy to use, and the app comes up with great suggestions.
Designer clothes are both extremely beautiful and expensive. Luckily, there are so many ways we can dress like we are famous without the budget and perks of being famous.
